There is a big meeting around the lake
a doggy walk, run, for charities sake
all shapes and sizes and many different breeds
all are well behaved and the majority are off their leads
so they can frolic, meet each other and have real doggy fun
when we get back, a thirst quencher, quiche and a currant bun

So here we are a family of four
sometimes we are nice and sometimes a bore
Milou is the eldest, thinks she's the boss
but the three kits don't give a toss
and so we celebrate our love in our own special way
as today is national siblings day!

We worked hard in the garden, the kits and Milou watched on
it was four in the afternoon before she finally had her run
through the cemetry, beautiful mountain views, across the fields
i was tired, but Milou had sat in the garden all morning, and it really did appeal

The countryside is all of a twitter, with many a different song
part of nature's noisy and exuberant throng
frogs start up a throaty chorus on the other side of the lac
I can just detect a gentle hum of insects along our usual track

This afternoon i dragged my feet until late
so Milou had to be patient, and sadly wait
when the time came she is excited, all her usual leaps and bounds
as we get out at the lake she is met with her favourite hound

I put pen to paper to draw the landscape
a view of our village from the other side of our lake
we shaded ourselves under the bowers of a magnificent oak tree
as even in early evening it was still very hot for Milou and me

Today was a big date for our baby girl
number one, enough to send any calendar in a twirl
we had all kinds of big birthday plans
maybe a walk with all her fans
she had to be content with Marc and I
better doggie food but no cake or pie
